What is a Traineeship?
What financial incentives are available for training?
Traineeships are a structured form of learning and may be Government funded. An employer of a Trainee may be eligible for incentive payments, subsidies which include payroll tax exemption or workers compensation rebates for the duration of the Traineeship period to assist and incentivise employers to take on training of new or existing employees.
How long does it take to get a qualification?
The time taken to gain a qualification will vary person to person, depending on their skill levels and exposure to drilling methods. DrillSkill Training together with industry consultation have resulted in the training packages for Drilling Operations comprise of the following:
- Certificate II in Drilling Operations - 12 month duration
- Certificate III in Drilling Operations - 18 month duration
- Certificate IV in Drilling Operations - 12 months duration
Recognition of Prior Learning is available for assessment for those with existing skills and experience.
Can I get a qualification if I am not currently employed?
No. The structure of the training package requires that an individual have sufficient practical training and documentary evidence to support their practical experience. DrillSkill Training primarily is a Business to Business training provider and offers employers nationally accredited qualification training in Drilling Operations by way of class based training, practical training and assessments (onsite and at DrillSkill Training facilities).
I am working in the drilling industry, what qualifications do I need?
The standard qualifications are as follows:
- Driller’s Offsider = Certificate II in Drilling Operations – New Starts or Green Hats
- Driller = Certificate III in Drilling Operations – 3-5 years minimum experience on the job
- Supervisors = Certificate IV in Drilling Operations – Recommended for individuals with over 8-10 years experience and possibly moving to managerial roles
Why do I need a qualification?
Most mining companies now require that anyone operating on one of their sites is qualified, or can show evidence of training towards a qualification. To be competent in a qualification a certain standard of proven skills and abilities must be met, this means that your qualification will help to show current or prospective employers your level of expertise in your industry and profession.
Can I make the training program specific to the needs of my company?
Yes. DrillSkill Training has already worked closely with drilling companies to co-develop company specific training programs, from company inductions to the adjustment of our Nationally Recognised qualifications.
